This five-day self-guided cycling itinerary takes you across the ‘parc naturel regional des causes du Quercy’ to discover the two marvels of the Lot, namely Saint Cirq Lapopie and Rocamadour. The cycle starts in the Lot Valley by the village of Saint Cirq Lapopie, voted ‘the village the French preferred most’ in 2012 and labelled as ‘one of the most beautiful villages of France’. The trip continues into the picturesque Célé Valley before ascending onto the limestone plateau of the ‘causses du Quercy’ that lead you to Rocamadour, the second most visited site in France.
Equipped with a quality-touring bicycle, follow the itinerary with the aid of a GPS map and detailed roadmap. Your baggage will be transported by vehicle from hotel to hotel.

Day 1 Arrival Hotel Les Gabarres, Tour de Faure
Make your way to the Hotel Les Gabarres in the village of Tour de Faure. (We can organise a transfer by taxi from either Toulouse Airport or Cahors train station if required). The hotel Les Gabarres is located in the Lot Valley very near the famous village of Saint Cirq Lapopie, a medieval village set on a cliff-face overlooking the Lot River and offering exceptional views. Your hotel has comfortable rooms and a swimming pool. Your bicycle, equipment and detailed itinerary will be given to you before your evening meal in the Auberge des Versane, located near your hotel.
Day 2 Tour de Faure - Grèzes (46km) Hotel La Grézalide, Grèzes
Your first day of cycling takes you from Tour de Faure to the village of Grèzes. The route starts by following an old track once used for towing boats upriver and partly cut into the cliff-face. The itinerary leads you from the Lot Valley into the picturesque Célé Valley, renowned as one of the most scenic parts of the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route. You may also wish to visit the wonderful Grotte de Pech-Merle, a cave with prehistoric art famous for its paintings of horses and hands. Cycle along the Célé River past numerous charming villages and up onto the limestone plateau before reaching the small village of Grèzes. The Hotel La Grézalide is your base for the night.
Day 3 Grèzes - Rocamadour (42km) Hotel Le Troubadour, Rocamadour
Today you will be cycling across the ‘Causse de Gramat’, a limestone plateau with little soil and plenty of stone. The quiet country roads will take you from village to village where you can admire how man has had to adapt to the environment in search of earth and water. To enhance your first sight of Rocamadour, you arrive from the opposite side of the Valley of L’Alzou. Famed since the 12th Century as an important pilgrimage site, Rocamadour sits against a massive cliff and boasts impressive walls with small streets lined by medieval-style buildings. Make your way to the Hôtel Le Troubadour, your base for 2 nights. Le Troubadour is located just north of Rocamadour in a quiet area and within easy reach of other interesting sites. Le Troubadour has its own swimming pool and both breakfast and dinner will be served in the restaurant.
Day 4 Rocamadour Hotel Le Troubadour, Rocamadour
A free day to do as you wish. Here are some of ideas:
A visit of Rocamadour is a must ! For the walkers there are several beautiful walks along the Alzou Valley, most notably the watermill trail and the resurgence trail. For those seeking the underground then the Gouffre de Padirac offers a fantastic experience visiting the underground galleries by boat where vast geological formations are to be admired. Further afield, you may cycle to visit more ‘most beautiful villages of France’ notably the villages of Carennac, Loubressac and Autoire. Another option is simply to relax by the pool. Breakfast and dinner will be taken at the Hotel Le Troubadour.
Day 5 Rocamadour - Labastide Murat (38km) Hotel La Garissade, Labastide Murat
After breakfast set off via Rocamadour and the Alzou Valley before climbing up on to the plateau to reach the town of Labastide Murat, a mere 25 km away. Many of the small country roads are lined with old stone walls with dolmens and various stone-built structures dotted about the landscape. Your hotel in Labastide Murat is the Hotel La Garissade where a fine dinner awaits you.
Day 6 Labastide Murat - Tour de Faure (34km) Hotel Les Gabarres, Tour de Faure
Your last day in the saddle takes you back to the Hotel Les Gabarres in Tour de Faure. Cycle along the ‘causse’ or high plateau before descending down into the very scenic Sagne Valley to the village of Cabrerets on the banks of the River Célé. From Cabrerets follow the Célé and Lot Rivers until you reach Tour de Faure. Dinner tonight is in the heart of the village of Saint Cirq Lapopie.
Day 7 Depart Depart after breakfast. A transfer by taxi to Toulouse Airport or Cahors train station can be arranged.
Itinerary: The ‘Saint Cirq Lapopie to Rocamadour’ itinerary is 160km (100 miles) in length. The GPS itinerary can be downloaded onto your own smartphone or GPS. A detailed roadmap is also supplied.
Accommodation: All accommodation is based on ** or *** hotels. All of the hotels, except the Hôtel La Garissade, have their own private swimming pools. Please note that the hotels mentioned in the itinerary are subject to availability. It may occur that another hotel of the same standard be used.
Meals: All breakfasts are included. No lunches are included. All dinners are included except in Grèzes on Day 2, where you can enjoy an a-la-carte dinner at the hotel. We suggest that clients buy a picnic lunch and enjoy it en-route. Some hotels offer packed lunches. You will also find small shops or restaurants along the way.
Luggage: All luggage will be transferred by vehicle and will be picked up after your departure from the hotel. It will be brought to your next hotel before your arrival.
Bicycles: Dedicated bicycles for cycling holidays will be used. The bicycles are changed on a yearly basis and are equipped with proper panniers for small personnel items, a water bottle, puncture repair kit, lock, and a detailed road map.
